...but you'd be surprised how many of seemingly unrelated places on the Internet would break without google.
- jnsaff2 4y agoYeah, their captcha is everywhere for starters. Obviously a lot of other deps too.
- 4m1rk 4y agoAnd Google fonts?
- jnsaff2 4y agoBlocking google fonts creates weirdness but doesn't really break much.
- 7373737373 4y agoHow come there isn't a single open source captcha solution?
- leodriesch 4y agoI’d say captchas are reliant on not being open about their detection methods, otherwise they would be easier to game. AFAIK the image selection is only part of determining you’re a human, the other part is tracking your mouse movement and so to see if you’re real.

- bogwog 4y agoThe image captcha isn't even the latest version. The one where you need to click on images is from like 2014, but recaptcha v3 doesn't require any interaction from the user at all. It uses some vague analysis of user behavior (and probably tracking data from other websites, shadow profiles, etc) to determine the likeliness that the user is a bot.
- nano9 4y agoI've noticed hcaptcha being used more widely.
- jer0me 4y agoI believe that hCaptcha pays the site administrator, so for a Cloudflare or Discord it could be a sizable chunk of cash. Maybe not to them, but it’s something.
- eatbots 4y agoNo: enterprise customers like that pay hCaptcha. https://www.hcaptcha.com/enterprise https://www.hcaptcha.com/enterprise
- easrng 4y agoThere are plenty of open source "type the letters" captchas, there are also open source PoW "captchas" like https://github.com/FriendlyCaptcha https://github.com/FriendlyCaptcha (that one might only be partially open, not sure)
