Oh well, I'm wondering so called FSD would ever come out of beta. The situations on roads are so complicated and volatile that competent human drivers cannot avoid making mistakes and that's based on the fact human drivers can UNDERSTAND the situations. Understanding require REAL INTELLIGENCE, but unfortunately all artificial intelligence are at best artificial idiocy. No, I'm not saying AIs are useless, they are actually quite useful in very limited scenarios but that's pretty much it. Unless there is a break through on understanding how human understand, all the current AI approaches won't go anywhere.
All self-driving cars should be blocked on public roads or we are going to see accidents involving such vehicles increasing dramatically very soon.
- dont__panic 4y agoI'm scared to admit that the future will likely see "AI-only" roads where only licensed AI is allowed to operate, no human drivers. Simply because eventually these car companies will hit a wall with uptake and usage, and they'll lobby the pants off of city and state government to prove the worth of their AI driving. I'm thinking something like I70 or I25 in Colorado, which barely function on a daily basis because the human drivers are just so dangerous. AI will seem like an upgrade just because it'll filter certain demographics from the road and reduce traffic... for a little while. To clarify: I do not think this is a good idea. But eventually the hot AI/electric car uptake will slow, and car companies are going to look for the next opportunity to make more people upgrade. What accomplishes that better than anything? Banning older cars from certain roads, making their experiences retroactively poor enough to force an early upgrade!
- namlem 4y agoI think high speed, driverless-only protected lanes could be a good thing. Up the speed limit to 120mph and let the cars convoy for increased efficiency. Would dramatically improve throughput and reduce traffic in the other lanes.
- ariliso 4y agoAren't you just describing a shittier version of high speed rail at this point?
- BenjiWiebe 4y agoWithout needing to build new infrastructure.
