Here in Germany the health care system is severely stressed particular nurses are hard to come by. Nurses and young doctors were often coming from other EU countries but Covid slowed this migration. I could imagine the situation in Britain much worse due to Brexit and quite possibly and even higher reliance on foreign skilled health care labour.
- lotsofpulp 4y ago> reliance on foreign skilled health care labour. I think it is more accurate to say cheap labor.
- MattPalmer1086 4y agoNo, we really did import a lot of skilled labour and did not train enough of our own people.
- lotsofpulp 4y agoDomestic people were not discriminated against from training. Birthrates went down, so supply of labor decreases, so prices have to increase to attract more people to do the desired type of labor. Or if the country is desirable enough, the country can open up immigration to increase supply of labor and keep prices lower than if they had kept immigration closed. Domestic labor can keep moving onto more desirable jobs while immigrants keep doing the less desirable work in exchange for being able to immigrate. Works well, until birthrates drop too low and/or immigrants stop coming for whatever reason.
- MattPalmer1086 4y agoYes, that's a fair point.
- MattPalmer1086 4y agoNot sure why my parent comment has been downvoted to zero points. If you disagree, say why. One person bothered to do that and I agreed with their point.
