(Original post description with clickable links.) ____ Notice a what appears to be a bug in HN’s search for comments that allows me to see the sum of votes a comment received: To replicate the bug, click link below: https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&query=&sort=byPopularity&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&qu... ...and the first comment should have “1081 points” and be this comment: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6805807 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6805807 ____ Bug does not appear to be universal, nor am I able to figure out a pattern of why some of the comments appear to show the comment votes, but if for example you sort comments by date, they don’t appear to show vote points: https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&query=&sort=byDate&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&qu...     Thanks, aware of the email, I don’t use email, and also don’t personally care for side-channel moderation; respect dang preference for it, just not one I personally works for me.

        Thanks, I try, 100% sure aware that they’re suboptimal, but guess that’s only human.

  HN used to show points of comments, and the API still show the score for those old comments, but not for new ones. It's not a bug in the search nor API, but rather data that used to have more datapoints but now has less.     Yup, thought that might be an explanation, though didn’t recall comment votes ever publicly being shown; and yes, realize it was 8+ years ago. Thanks clarifying things!
