- lifeisstillgood 4y agoYou mean HN? No. This is intellectually curious. Social media is either some evil bent on destroying our democracy and mental health, or it's going to transform everything for the better. Of course it is more nuanced than this and we are starting to see how society will deal with it. European Digital markets act and similar regulation is one direction but it's mostly about how individuals learn a common "social" way to deal with it. Is it acceptable to not reply, to not reply immediately, what's wrong with over preparing posts or over selling your life And the people most likely to guide mass behaviours are of course celebrities
- lifeisstillgood 4y agoIt's probably over optimistic to see this as some turning point in how we (society) deals with social media, that's at least a generation and sensible regulation. But it's a start to see how as a "job" managing social media is all-consuming
- tengbretson 4y agoIn case you missed it, the name of the film not being promoted is "Stutz."
- lifeisstillgood 4y agoYeah. Loudly announcing a retreat from social media is similar to announcing an anonymous charity donantion. but ... somehow we (all society) need to work out how to use these new tools for the best. Like say cars and roads - that conversation has been evolving for decades - seat belts, drink driving, cyclists and so on. Some driven by regulation, some by social change (In my parents time drink driving was seen very differently to now). Anyway, this is part of a conversation trying to find out how people currently feel about social media and mental health (both and seperatley) and what they are or not willing to chnage. These sort of articles (and this thread) are polls before the pollsters even know what to ask.

- tssva 4y agoMaybe I'm overly cynical but this seems more like a way to promote a movie that has around a $0 promotion budget. I guess we will all find out next time he has a big budget Hollywood movie coming out.
- rurban 4y agoI think this problem stems from the fact that the public image Hollywood agencies create for 90% of their actors are full of lies, with explicit and costly deals to fulfill those lies. And now an actor can be very worried to be confronted publicly. Jonah could just come out for his own sanity.
