There is a risk that many young people feels that they personally need to fix the world, when it only can be done by political and economic leaders.
The message that the most contaminant industries are sending is "You are personally at fault for all pollution" when the reality is that most pollution is created out of our direct capability of influence.
I have seen an increase of people sending the message: you can improve the world thru political action. You are not responsible for the world but you can put people in power to fix the environment and keep them accountable. That is way more healthy than to think that one can fix all the world problems by oneself.
- _fat_santa 4y agoThe message I've heard from other young people around this is: "how can you do A when the world is filled with X, Y and Z", often times the argument is around climate change: "how can I raise a family with the looming climate disaster". My argument has always been that you have to not worry about those things and keep living your life. There very well may be a climate disaster in our lifetimes, but you can't put your life on hold waiting for that moment, live your life and cross that bridge when you get there. Climate change is a perfect example because it's something that's clearly visible, in our faces on the news, and is something that no one individual can do anything about. While I think you should be aware of it (that is don't go around being a climate change denier), I don't think it's something you should "worry" about. Worrying adds a certain level of mental strain, and if you're worrying about all the problems in the world, that small mental strain from every worrying topic starts to add up.
