A generation of stressed out young people too tired to go out and do anything after a long day and too anxious to make noise at home because their landlord might kick them out sounds like a fairly reasonable outcome of the economic situation I described above, but I agree, it’s not the thrust of this specific article, which I think misses out on the underlying cause of the change in behaviour.

I hate the "woe is me, I work all day and my landlord sucks" narrative because it resigns you to apathy. There are many things outside of your control, but what is in your control is how your respond to them. If you come home an anxious wreck every day, that's not your bosses or your landlords fault, that's your fault.
- throwaway22032 4y agoEverything is someone else's fault. I have to live in the expensive part of the expensive city and do fancy things because I'm me, never mind whether I have money, I should have money because it's unfair if I don't. Someone else has it so I should too, except without any of the background or work.
