I'm not a crypto fan at all, but 'Blithering idiot' this, 'Stupid' that, just turns me off the argument, and even reinforces that the naysayers are just as rabid as the 'bros'.
- Chai-T-Rex 4y agoBased on your own standard, I'm wondering why people should take you seriously when you use terms like 'rabid'.

- psd1 4y agoI don't agree with GP that naysayers might be "rabid" but I certainly know someone who was bitten by a bat(coin). "Rabid" is bang-on for at least some people. It's relevant and non-hypocritical. It may not be the best comment, but neither was yours.
- Brian_K_White 4y agoSome people are in fact rabid, and the comment is addressing only them by definition. It stands up to scrutiny.
- davidgerard 4y agoif you can outline what isn't blitheringly stupid about proof of work crypto mining, then please do tell, else it would be prey to false balance
- tromp 4y agoPoW allows for fair distribution of coins, esp. with a fixed block reward so as to avoid concentrating wealth on early adopters, and to deter speculation. The only example we have of such an emission runs on less power than what a single windmill provides.
- quickthrower2 4y agoThat is one big windmill.
- tromp 4y agoGrin's graphrate is under 8000 G/s, which takes only 800KW of power, so quite a modest size windmill.
