Yes. Although the main story line can be done without paying a single cent, the endgame nudges you towards real money shop all the time. After some point credit card becomes the main progression path. I personally enjoyed playing through story on iPad, but was unimpressed with the endgame. It is very shallow, limited to the same generated locations or dungeons you have already seen. There is virtually no build diversity either. Not sure why someone would pay money for the experience.
