Earth Goddess statue in Cornish town sparks unholy row with church leaders
- jqpabc123 4y agoThanks for demonstrating that the USA isn't the only country that suffers from "religious logic" and fantasy that demands special accommodation --- just because their god says they deserve it.
- IceMetalPunk 4y ago"We know that you don't believe this, and we know there's no evidence for it, but WE believe your art is evil because its name contains the word 'god', and therefore we'll be very cross if you don't accommodate our beliefs by modifying or destroying your art." Why do religious fuckers constantly think "I believe this is wrong" means "this is objectively harmful and must be quashed as soon as possible"?
- krapp 4y agoBased on the title alone, I expected the statue to be a lot more pagan, along the lines of the Venus of Willendorf or other fertility statues with... attributes that might offend Puritan western sensibilities besides its name. But it looks like a big hippie sword in a sheath - the symbolism is almost contradictory.
- beardyw 4y agoIn the same way that the Angel of the North is not actually an angel, I am not sure that anyone thinks this is a god. All these (my fellow) Christians are doing is engaging in animism, which is particularly unchristian. What was an "earth goddess" they have cast as a goddess. And thanks to the Streisand effect will remain one. God help us.
