Show HN: Sell your stuff, Say bye to individual ads
How would you clear a house and sell its content in a short period of time if you had to?
I was faced with this challenge last year when I lost my mother and had to let go her house.
With no time and energy to post individual ads on traditional platforms like Facebook Marketplace, I couldn’t find an easy solution so I decided to create one.
Quickly after starting, I realised that it could also benefit sellers from flea markets, yard and car boot sales or even street vendors selling arts and other craft works and that this space was not digitalized.
The idea, therefore, became to be able to set up virtual market stalls to sell a bunch of stuff without the need to post individual ads. A sort of shopify for street vendors, self promoted using QR codes in real life.
What about item categorisation for buyers? How would they browse?
By location, by keywords, by category, etc. The fields are all optionals for sellers so I add keywords using image recognition algorithms when they upload pictures.
I hope this solution will help others too.
Looking forward to your feedbacks!
- andrew_ 4y agoThis looks geared towards the UK crowd but doesn't explicitly say so anywhere (that I could find, on mobile). Since it doesn't use the familiar .co.uk domain, it wasn't obvious initially. Then I saw "boot" and then the location on the listings.
- kvndevils 4y agoHey Andrew, thanks for your feedback. This is actually worldwide and not restricted to UK. The default filter will automatically geolocate you but you can select any location. Good point about the wording that I need to review then if it is too UK specific.
- kvndevils 4y agoBtw, this was a challenge for me when started this project. Is it better to have a .com or country specific domains and/or potentially different names. Should I use the same code base or different ones. Same server instance, etc. I had a name I really liked in French so I kept it and created https://videmongrenier.fr/ https://videmongrenier.fr/ and decided to use a more generic name for worldwide (http://shopmystuff.com/ http://shopmystuff.com/). Same code base.
