Apple's Diabolical Plan to Control the Ad Buisiness
- cmsj 4y ago> Apple has quietly positioned itself to dominate the online advertising market of the 2020s Bit of a stretch unless/until Apple gets into ads outside the App Store.
- jqpabc123 4y agoPeople who exist inside Apple's walled garden are completely at their mercy. Just how much abuse and exploitation will these fanboys take? Maybe we are about to find out. Maybe that iPhone you just paid $1k for is really an ad platform just waiting to be turned on. Imagine a full screen ad every time you wake up your device or try to launch an app. Basically saying ... We'll launch your app when *we* are ready ... but first a word from *our* advertisers. Like it and buy it ... suckers.
- hericium 4y agoBut... it's a hardware company!
- euroderf 4y agoIt's all about macrodata refinement.
- boesboes 4y agoWhat utter nonsense. The premise seems to be Apple shows you ads in de app store and this means they are abusing your data?
- threeseed 4y agoApple has a market share of: - 0% of the display ad advertising market - 0% of the search advertising market - 0% of the ecommerce advertising market - 0% of the social advertising market - 0% of the video advertising market - 0% of the affiliate advertising market But I have to agree that they are very much on track to dominate the space. Question is whether this happens before or after Linux on the desktop.
- insickness 4y agoTL;DR: Because Apple is advertising on the App Store, which they've been doing for years, they are now in the Ad Business.
- jqpabc123 4y agoSorry, this site lost me. Aside from their blatant Apple fanboyism, their semi-rationalization of how tracking and profiling is actually good for the user/consumer is comically circular and self serving. You need to be tracked and profiled so you can see better ads? In other words; if Apple is getting into it, it must be for your own good. As if people actually want more ads. As if people actually like paying more for products to cover the cost of all the ads they don't want to see. Borrowing from (and improving upon) their rationale: On a long enough timeline; regardless of the business model, everyone with something to sell comes to Amazon --- even Apple. Amazon has a diabolical plan to control the ad business --- along with ecommerce. And their plan is stupidly simple and obvious --- build an ecommerce site that is actually reliable and show context sensitive ads when people actually express an interest in buying something. It's where advertising is least intrusive and makes the most sense. Other forms of advertising are just an annoyance, a distraction and a total waste of my time and bandwidth with questionable cost effectiveness. I block it to the max. extent possible --- along with tracking and profiling.
- theklr 4y agoEh, there’s nothing here, yet. Apple previously attempted this with iAds and they were trash due to the privacy measures then. Their news app allows the publishers to have ads as well and it’s still trash, and fairly private. I’m just confused in what’s the argument, is it that apple is also doing ads or is it the privacy aspect? Cause I will for damn sure take Apples mess v. Meta/Google.
