The Histories Hidden in the Periodic Table (2019)
- mncharity 4y agoPeriodic Table diagrams emphasize patterns in electron clouds, chemistry, over nuclei. The nucleus valley of stability is more easily seen in a nuclide chart. I wish I knew of better ones, but here are two interactives[1][2] and a slide[3] for research context. FWIW. I've wondered if atoms might be taught less unsuccessfully in primary by focusing on nuclei. Little balls, easily visualized, with only two constituents. And behaviors like stable numbers which preview electron behavior. And only then, with a firm and stable place to stand, take on electron clouds' manifold wackiness and the zoo of chemistry.
