>It's the same story for the last few years. There is no new information.
False. Here's the new information:
>The 1,286 overdose deaths reported to MDH last year represented a 22% increase from the 2020 total.

The rate is increasing. That's the story.
>You do realize that's encounters? Meaning enforcement is up. The number of people coming over isn't changing, just how many are getting caught.
Again, just like with Fentanyl it's increasing and now we even have drone videos of groups of hundreds: https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1544724908407758851 https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1544724908407758851
Pretending it isn't happening is what CNN is doing by ignoring it. You may not care about illegal immigration, but that doesn't make it not a story. Some people do. I don't feel strongly about it either way, but people who only watch CNN don't even know it's happening. So they don't even get the chance to make up their minds about it.
- jedberg 4y agoAs the sibling comment pointed out, wages for jobs typically done by illegal immigrants is up, which implies immigration is down. So again, the only thing that is up is enforcement. The rate of fentanyl overdose has been increasing for a while. Again, it's a bad situation, but not sure why there would be continued reporting on it.
- NaturalPhallacy 4y agoSo now it's not "bordering on conspiracy theory" but "the only thing that is up is enforcement." This is called the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motte-and-bailey_fallacy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motte-and-bailey_fallacy The rate going up is a change. New data. News. >The rate of fentanyl overdose has been increasing for a while. Again, it's a bad situation, but not sure why there would be continued reporting on it. It's a bad situation that has gotten worse. Because more people are dying than previously. That is a story.
- Volundr 4y agoCNN has covered it fentanyl deaths increasing increasing. [1] https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/11/health/drug-overdose-deaths-record-high-2021/index.html https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/11/health/drug-overdose-deaths-r...
- NaturalPhallacy 4y agoSo it's a story then? People in this thread are arguing that it isn't.
- Volundr 4y agoNo, they are arguing that's it's not a story this week. The first pig->human heart transplant took place earlier this year. Is Fox ignoring it because they haven't covered it this week? Or is it not news because there are no new developments?
- NaturalPhallacy 4y agoNo, they're literally arguing it isn't a story, right in this same thread: >It should be noted that the four stories that CNN didn't cover aren't actually real stories, but are bordering on conspiracy theories. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32514411 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32514411
- kaba0 4y agoThat’s one commenter. Others have chimed in countering false claims in one side. That doesn’t mean they automatically support the other side..
