Correct me if I’m wrong but high performance fanless laptops are only possible with ARM chips atm. Has any other big laptop chip designer even announced plans for anything remotely close to M1/M2?
- adam_arthur 4y agoMost efficiency gains come from manufacturing fab process, not whether it's ARM or x86. M1 is the only 5nm processor on the market right now. Yes, you will see quite comparable performance once Intel and AMD get to 5nm as well
- jasonwatkinspdx 4y agoArchitecture does still matter. M1's decoder is 8 issue. You just can't build that for x86 without pipeline depth or some other resulting tradeoff making it pointless.
