Very confused leftist here. When you say leftist are you referring to something other than trade unionists and anticapitalists? Do you consider corporate PR/DE&I consulting to be a fundamentally leftist profession?

Leftist in the sense of those who are more worried about supporting social/cultural topics than anything else. The kind who care more about if a company "supports" LGBTQIAP+ rights and "fighting" climate change than if the company supports unionizing and profit sharing. Social leftists rather than economic leftists. When most people say "left wing" in reference to the U.S. that is what they mean. Granted there are many leftists who are both, but not as many as an economic leftist would like. The Venn diagram is not a circle.

  Not sure where you got your definition for leftists. The left as I know it has been fighting for universal healthcare, increasing minimum wages, increase unionization of labor, better child care benefits, increased funding for schools and public services, increase on capital gains tax and fighting climate change. They also fight for providing equal treatment for minorities and women. If one only cares about supports" LGBTQIAP+ rights and not the other issues, they are probably log cabin republicans.

  Yeah that’s upsetting and concerning. The mods can easily read my comment and see that there is nothing inflammatory or derogatory about it. Very sad to see the level of censorship on HN. My comment was about how evil corps have co-opted and diverted rightful arguments of the left, and this gets censored. Amazing

I do, for what it’s worth. Progressive is probably a better word, and I try to avoid the word “leftist” because it has such a negative connotation to many. Progressives, demsocs, and cultural marxists are “leftists” to me. Please don’t shoot the messenger.
