We are losing some things with laïcité, the freedom _from_ religion. We are usually losing the shackles of dogmatism, which is a good thing. However we also are losing the places and teachers of morality - not to say the morals of catholisms are anything to abide by- we are losing opportunities to talk with eachother, sometimes even our neighbors because the time now gained from not going to mass is recycled for our own selfish wants.
Laïcité has mostly been a good thing but I am increasingly in favour of kicking the clergy out of the Church and churches to reconstite the republic from the last remnants of the empire, to have civilization reborn into a caring and closely knit adventure of all humans, free from dogma, bound together by our mutual needs.
