The thing is, that could be a great trilogy. The issue is it just isn't Tolkien. Which would be fine, if they marketed it as something completely different. In that case though, it'd be pretty jarring to reconcile the Tolkien law with whatever crazy action they come up with and you'd have to wonder why they would bother even using Tolkien's material except, cynically, for name and brand recognition as a path to massive amounts of money.
