The United States demanded that Canada extend copyright to life + 70 years. Justin Trudeau and Christina Freeland acquiesced when they signed the USMCA.
The deadline for implementation is January 2023, thus Tolkien's works will not be entering the public domain. There will be no works entering the public domain in Canada between 2023 and 2043.
- AlexandrB 4y agoBasically ransacking of the public domain. If copyright violation is "piracy", copyright extension should also get a cool name.
