- thoughtpalette 4y agoWas just thinking the other day of revisiting multiplication tables from middle school. Feel like it'd be a good mental exercise and something that I should relearn!
- fred_is_fred 4y agoDo you mean elementary school?
- thoughtpalette 4y agoNot for me personally! I believe I recall doing the "times tables" in 6th/7th grade (in USA).
- poulsbohemian 4y agoIt would be interesting to study distraction as a component of memory. I'm constantly forgetting short-term things. Dumb example: "Honey could you pick up milk on your way home?", but I forget to stop and get the milk. Why? Because I'm distracted working two jobs, getting the kids where they need to be, the magic mobile device in my pocket, weather that is 20 degrees hotter than it should be, and all the rest of the things in life that create distraction. Point being, it's the cognitive overload of stuff that I notice gets in my way of remembering things more than age.
- hammyhavoc 4y agoMy take: human brains are great at having ideas, but poor at holding onto information. If I didn't put things into tangible form ala notes or a task list, I'd be both overwhelmed yet also forget the majority of it. Writing things down really helps commit them to memory, perhaps to the point that I don't always need to reference notes or a list. This is largely why school still has students copy down information.
