The Segway was worse than an e-scooter in almost every way. It was wider and needed more clearance around obstacles like curbs, railings, and bollards. It was higher, making dismount more dangerous. Lateral wheels and fixed roll axis (combined with high cog) make sloped surfaces dangerous, and cornering clumsy. It might be better for someone unable to balance a scooter, but would they feel safe with that big step up onto a moving platform? That’s a marginal case likely better served by a seated mobility scooter, which is no worse than a Segway for clearance, cornering, and fixed pitch.
Kamen’s self-balancing wheelchairs are neat, but the Segway is a non-solution.
