Amazon accuses FTC of harassing executives including Jeff Bezos and Andy Jassy
- ggm 4y agoI "get" that there is an underlying note of "tyranny" in the regulator asking rich execs to justify their existence, but I have to say as one of the plebs, I am not particularly concerned at the burden placed on Bezos &c by the FTC. I can think of worse burdens, they happen all the time, to poorer people. They just tend not to have access to top line lawyers and PR flacks to get the story into the Financial Times. I regard this kind of lawyer speak in public as part of their strategy. It isn't actually a true comment to process cost, or the burden, or the public interest. Bezos doesn't actually have to open his capacious filing cabinet stack, which is in a cederwood room beside his selection of shirts and shoes in the lodge. He doesn't even have to do very much at all drafting his response: he pays people to do this for him. No, to me, what this represents is a very strong signal the FTC has a valid point, because the "burden" here is the risk to Bezos that he has acted in ways which breach existing regulations.
