That wouldn't seem nearly as uncool. This turned out to be prescient: I commuted to work today on a vehicle made by Segway (a Ninebot scooter). I'd argue that more of the appeal is that it lets you go as fast as bikes (without breaking a sweat), rather than the dorkiness, but I think the two are related. Admittedly I felt a bit dorky the first time I rode it, but now I'm convinced that it's the ultimate vehicle to have in a city.
