Oracle begins auditing TikTok's algorithms
- wolverine876 4y agoWhy trust Oracle? Generally, their reputation in the IT industry doesn't fit the role of 'trustworthy neutral third party' but of a highly aggressive business willing to do almost anything (though I don't have much direct contact - perhaps others see it differently?), and I wonder if Oracle would embrace the latter description. Also, they attempted to acquire Tik-Tok when it was under political pressure, thus forcing down the price, and my impression was that they had the inside track because they were supporters of the Trump administration - the administration was using its political power to hand a major business asset to its friend. Given that track record and demonstrated motivations, why would we trust that Oracle's audit results aren't primarily driven by Oracle's interests? How about hiring Citizen Lab, or one or two of many other organizations?
