Android 13 arrives
- londons_explore 4y ago1 hour on, and no comments. 10 years ago, this would have been hot news with everyone trying to start building modded ROMs.
- public_defender 4y agoI guess with google having systematically extinguished the mod community, there's just nothing exciting about a new release.
- sigsev_251 4y agoThis. Back in the day you could find a custom ROM for pretty much every phone, and most of them were quite good actually. Now the only phones that get interesting ROMs are the Google pixels. Ahh, times have changed.
- londons_explore 4y agoI think partially it's a generational thing. The people with the free time to build custom ROMs were mostly school and university people. They were keen on phones because they were new and cool. Back in the 60's, everyone was modding cars because they were quickly developing and cool. Phones are now old tech, and to young people are nothing special, so they won't put months of time into developing mods. Quite what the new equivalent is I'm not sure - perhaps being a content producer on tiktok et al?
- was_a_dev 4y agoAndroid and iOS are now mature operating systems. Look at the main features that are advertised, they aren't anything major in comparison to the new features when Android Honeycomb (3.0+) and Android Ice Cream Sandwhich (4.0) were released.
