- throwaway0a5e 4y agoThey also weren't competing with a bunch of people with college degrees so except at the highest end a college degree was less of a necessity therefore they could get away without wasting 4yr on it.

- colinmhayes 4y agoan industrial economy without too much competition there’s plenty of cheap labor to be had in the world. The us was prosperous because there was the right combination of labor and capital.
