Vuurmuur Firewall
- LargoLasskhyfv 4y agoFor people wondering about the latest release, getting the impression this is quasi-abandonware... ... https://github.com/inliniac/vuurmuur https://github.com/inliniac/vuurmuur would maybe more informative. Seems to move slow, but had its latest release 0.8.1 on Dec 29, 2021. I just clicked through all this, because it rang some very old bells of mine ;-> But can't remember having the ncurses-interface which looks sweet, or I mistook it for something else.
- thedougd 4y agoHaven’t most distributions moved on to nftables? I’m looking for a Linux firewall with declarative, file based configuration I can emit from configuration management. Probably driving nftables. I’m currently using firewalld, but I run into enough bugs and challenges. Or I could jump to something eBPF based.
- Someone 4y agoFrom the blog of the project lead (https://blog.inliniac.net/2019/02/24/vuurmuur-0-8-has-been-released/ https://blog.inliniac.net/2019/02/24/vuurmuur-0-8-has-been-r...): “I plan to continue to work on Vuurmuur, but it will likely remain at a low pace. Suricata development is simply taking too much of my time. As a next big step, I’m thinking about making the leap to nftables. This would be quite a project, so I’m resisting it a bit. On the other hand, I would like to learn more about nftables as well.”
- thedougd 4y agoThis sent me down a rabbit hole last night looking into the current state of bpfilter. I ended up discovering that firewalld introduced a policies feature without me noticing. Looks like it may potentially cover my gaps.
