    No. It's "one and a half order" thinking, where you leave out half of the story, but the story still works for your brain.

  It is. I snipped some parts of the story to simplify it for the comment, and left out an important step: The Jamaican example "grabbed the attention of Hawaiian sugar cane planters, who also suffered from the rats. Bringing mongooses to Hawaii as natural pest exterminators seemed such an elegant idea. "
