Reviews have effectively become meaningless. There's so many contenders in each category releasing so many products frequently that reviewers are playing catch-up but are also overwhelmed. They can only spend a short amount of time per product which makes most reviews superficial. As a shopper, it's become impossibly hard to find good products. Most reviews just read out the specs, they explain what it is, not how good it is.
In the rare case that you do find a good one, its production lifespan is very limited, so you can't buy it again. Or it can't be repaired as nobody knows how, or there's no parts.
Most products can't even be serviced at all, as not only is there no knowledge, the repair cost would exceed the production cost. Even the idea "buy local for better service" no longer applies. They can't fix it either, they'll handle it exactly the same way as a larger retail channel.
There barely is a distinction anymore between A brands and B brands. Same limited lifespan.
Even A brands get away with gross usability defects as effectively there isn't much of a feedback loop. By the time a product is widely considered to be bad, the next one is already there. Even if you were to consider boycotting a brand, you'll soon learn the other brands are no different, exceptions aside.
