AskHN: What is the online equivalent of modifying and branding another’s work?
For example customising a pair of Nike shoes and reselling them under your own brand - which is apparently legal?
- ionwake 4y agoSorry if this is a silly question I was just curious thank you
- uberman 4y agoAWS? Most of their services seem to be SAS/PAS based on Open source.
- ionwake 4y agoExcellent point - also in a way when you use AWS your end product would be in itself a rebranding of existing tech. Maybe this was a silly question after all - is there something more “complete” that can be rebranded legally ?
- uberman 4y agoWeb scraping might be thought of as a quasi-legal rebranding. For example, I think there are a bunch of sites that basically clone StackOverflow. In other "techy" places, I think "reaction videos" on platforms like YouTube might fall into this category. Forking an open source project though seems to be the iconic example in my book.
