- locallost 4y agoThere is none. There are other diseases you can get from ticks, such as encephalitis, and there is a vaccine for it, so maybe the friend mixed the two up.
- DennisP 4y agoOr they got the Lyme vaccine a couple decades ago. > In 1998, the FDA approved a new recombinant Lyme vaccine, LYMErix™, which reduced new infections in vaccinated adults by nearly 80%. Just 3 years later, the manufacturer voluntarily withdrew its product from the market amidst media coverage, fears of vaccine side-effects, and declining sales. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2870557/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2870557/
- headsoup 4y ago> and declining sales The real reason
- dudeDDRrulez 4y ago>fears of vaccine side-effects Actual vaccine side effects and law suits. They settled for millions.
- DennisP 4y agoThere were lawsuits and they found it safest to settle, but that doesn't mean the complaints had statistical validity. According to the paper I posted, the FDA found no evidence of the vaccine causing harm. Even if harm had occurred, it would have to be weighed against the risk of harm from Lyme disease.
- logic_beats_pro 4y agoOh absolutely settling was safest for GSK. They settled to silence anyone that had adverse events and made them sign non disclosure agreements as part of the payout. I trust the FDA as far as I can throw them. Suspected they were dirty for a long time and COVID proved it. To me they are an arm of the pharmaceutical industry which does everything in its power to suppress and sanction alternative medicine. Big pharma considers anything other than drug interventions or vaccines "competition".
- tokai 4y agoProperly a misunderstand. There are other tickborne viruses, and some of them have vaccines. Lithuania is one of the countries with the highest rate of TBE.
- SuoDuanDao 4y agoI know plenty of people have gotten their dogs vaccinated against lyme disease, but to my knowledge it's not been approved for use on humans. When tick season is at its height here in Eastern Canada my friends and I joke that we should try to bribe a vet into giving us the shot...
- weberer 4y agoProbably got the tick encephalitis vaccine, which is common in Northern Europe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tick-borne_encephalitis_vaccine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tick-borne_encephalitis_vaccin...
