My 15 year old Sony LCD TV is built like a brick, and has never had an issue (nor a firmware update). Meanwhile, my 6 month old Sony OLED Smart TV has given me nothing but grief. Recently had to replace the entire OLED panel — understandably it’s not a repairable part — which is 80% of the TV itself. In another example, we replaced our 20 year old microwave with a modern LG (we moved house and the old microwave didn’t fit). The LG faulted within 15 months of use.
