another day, another javascript runtime environment
- ikt 4y agoas far as I'm aware Bun is significantly faster than others while maintaining a lot of the compatibility
- bigDinosaur 4y agodo we actually get many Javascript runtimes? Certainly fewer than JS frameworks.

- criley2 4y agoIs there really that many? Outside of browsers, I know of Node, Deno and now Bun. Is there really that many serious attempts to replace node?
- v413 4y agoBun is using the JavaScriptCore engine which is the Webkit/Safari Javascript engine. It is not written in Zig.
- SahAssar 4y agoThe engine (V8 analog) is not a "Zig engine", it's javascriptcore. The wrapper is Zig, like node is C/C++ and deno is Rust.
- criley2 4y agoMy bad, their page says "Bun uses the JavaScriptCore engine, which tends to start and perform a little faster than more traditional choices like V8. Bun is written in Zig, a low-level programming language with manual memory management." I conflated these two.
- _the_inflator 4y agoHistory is repeating once again. So let's face it: NodeJS is now the new Java. ;)
- o_m 4y agoCompetition is a good thing. The javascript engines wouldn't be as fast as they are now if there was only one engine.
- birdyrooster 4y agoSometimes it not a good thing when it keeps people using JavaScript.
- quickthrower2 4y agowe’ve done virtual dom (and better than virtual dom) UI frameworks to death so I guess this is next!
