Ask HN: Anyone successfully scraping data from TikTok?
I'm trying many scrapers out there but all broken or outdated. Any help or link is appreciated
- yorwba 4y agoHave you tried https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp ? A maintained fork of youtube-dl that also supports many other sites.
- boredemployee 4y agowill look for it, thx!
- y42 4y agoPlease keep us posted if it works. The website looks a little chaotic under the hood, but there are some clear API calls. It seems not to be too difficult to pull out some data programmatically.
- boredemployee 4y agoUnfortunately there's no documentation, tried looking in the source code of tiktok.py but honestly I don't have the skills to call the objects/functions just looking at it. What I need is: given a tiktok music id, how to scrap metadata of all posts using that music.
- y42 4y agoChallenge accepted.
- spansoa 4y agoI don't do mass-scraping with some automated tool. TikTok allows you to save videos, so people do that and re-post on other channels. There is enough of that happening that scraping is redundant. Just the way Vine[0] lives on forever on YouTube. - sharpscrape 4y agoI did a bit of it before: https://sharpscrape.com/case-studies/tiktok-scraping/ https://sharpscrape.com/case-studies/tiktok-scraping/
