I can't imagine Stripe being a particularly good workplace if a manager is continuously trying to give someone a hard time on the basis of assumptions such as a task taking long is because of some inherent deficiency within the employee.
- nlitened 4y agoIt seems to me that your assumption is that the manager operates in bad faith. If that is true, no matter what they do, it will all be bullshit, so there’s nothing to discuss. On the other hand, if the manager trusts the employee, and they trust their manager, and they both want to deliver something valuable to their customer, those pieces of advice all look pretty good to me.

And the most crucial point was totally missed: being able judge when an ops leader has to push things and when things have to be slowed and calmed down. It seeems the author only saw the first one and now thinks this is what ops is about. It is not. I jave to agree on the strategy part so, strategy is such a pleasant way to not do any meaningful work.
- alexashka 4y agoHaving a layer of middle management that has never done the job of the workers 'below' him/her, is bad faith by design. It is important to discuss, because many youngsters read these forums and don't know the ways of the world yet.
