Within the first couple of paragraphs, I was thinking “Yes, an income-sharing agreement loan, issued by an established, accredited institution sounds like something worth trying!” And then I read how this was just Purdue using a third-party company to make the loans, which disappointed me. And then Purdue explicitly saying “It’s not a loan” in their marketing materials? Ugh.
US Federal Student Loans have income-based repayment options. I’d love to see a school offer an ISA that is treated like a student loan, but the loan is being issued (and underwritten) by the school. If the school has more ‘skin in the game’ for a student’s success, that might incentivize them to improve both student selection (pre-enrollment) and counseling (post-enrollment).
