Work from Office
- atlasunshrugged 4y ago>The Sopranos and Homeland were (sort of) about remote work Did I miss a major plot point of these shows? > We often lose sight of the whole point, the whole shooting match of the economy — it exists to provide people with the security to form and strengthen relationships. I've never heard anyone claim before that this is the point of the economy. > If you’re an employer, the office is your primary tool for facilitating culture. Holiday parties and post-work drinks aren’t sunk costs — they’re investments in happiness, innovation, and relationships I think in my career I've been to about two party/work events that weren't incredibly cringey and didn't make me want to find a way to leave as quickly as possible For Galloway fans... what's the appeal here? I'm genuinely curious as I've tried to listen to his podcast with Swisher who I do like and found it incredibly dull and riddled with inconsistencies and his writing and tweets do not appear any better but he seems to have a cult following.
- thenerdhead 4y agoTo be honest the drawings and data gathered for them is my appeal. I largely ignore everything he writes. I agree with you here that he sometimes comes off as a hip boomer. I did like his post corona and algebra of happiness books though.
- Andys 4y agoYoung professionals, find yourself an employer where your colleagues are willing to communicate with you, mentor you, cowork with you - and this can all be remote.
- PeterStuer 4y ago"Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose sitting at that desk watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing office politicking, stuffing cantine junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable cubicle, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose an office job ... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose an office job. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you can work from home?"
- dzonga 4y agofuck a promotion. your money goes up by switching jobs. the employer doesn't owe you shit, n that goes the other way too. fuck the office, well besides showing your face for office socials - once in a bluemoon is sufficient.
- jleyank 4y agoWhen I lived and worked in a major city, then the office was a 10 minute walk. No sweat. I’ve heard that can be an hour or two each way in sv or nyc. Takes a long day and makes it interminable. And forget any kind of green initiate with such a commute. And this was to an office that was an office, not a corral with lots of people. Want culture or progress, mr employer?
- user00012-ab 4y agogpt3, write an articles about why people shouldn't work from home: Although working from home has its perks, there are several reasons why it’s not the best idea. First, working from home can be very isolating. You can miss out on important office camaraderie and water cooler talk. Second, it can be difficult to stay focused when you’re working in your PJs. Without a set schedule or routine, it’s easy to get sidetracked by laundry, dishes, and other household chores. Third, working from home can make it harder to “switch off” at the end of the day. When your work and home life are in the same place, it can be hard to leave work at the office. Lastly, working from home can put a strain on your personal relationships. If you’re constantly working, your partner or family can start to feel like they’re taking a backseat to your job.
