That was my feeling as well upon finishing the article. It is interesting to note the influence cultural exchange with First Nations people, some of them quite directly contributing, but the conclusions take it very far for the amount of evidence given, to say nothing of the modern political statements it proceeds to make.
It seems to operate on an assumption of the West claiming some inherent moral superiority for being the people who came up with these ideas? Such thinking is immediately absurd yet I can’t deny that it has existed in the past and still does to some (hopefully small) extant. It just seems like a convoluted straw man in the end. I agree that the West, and the US in particular, has done a lot of harm to other peoples and nations, and speaking as an American we need to do better. Maybe some with anti-western sentiments would attack and condemn seeing this as an admission of guilt, but really I would want us to cooperate for a better future. A man can dream
