I'm not sure that an 10 x 8 hour job interviews every 2-5 years when you want to leave your old company and get a new one is particularly onerous. My wife is a lawyer, she had to spend 2 years (in the US it's like 4 years at $80k+) and another 40 hours a year for life to maintain the qualifications that allow her to skip the equivalent of coding interviews. I'd rather live in the world of none credentialed programmers to be honest.
