Think Different(ly) – Development Done on Windows
- JediPig 4y agoWSL2 with GUI is heaven sent. I like to add the following comment to this whole win/linux/Mac debate. Windows 10/11 I use 11. The driver support is stellar. Network, Video, Cuda, USB support.. Mouse, Monitor... all of it is highly supported and ready. Sometimes with native linux you missing out on the best drivers. Besides, middle of day of prod hell, you want to go take a break. Load up MSFS2020, put your VR headset on, and enjoy Mt Fuji or grand cannon in a FA18.....
- openplatypus 4y agoWSL2 is still PITA with Yubikey. Can't wait for "native" support of whole USB stack. And I like stronger separation of VMWare and having multiple ready made, backed up environments.
- trinovantes 4y agoThe only downside is the Win11 taskbar It's been a huge productivity loss trying to switch to a different window of the same program
- Kukumber 4y agoSomething i noticed is windows users definitely love bloating everything, from their tech stack to their workstation The platform must be the problem if one has to go through all of that hasle What ever works for you i guess
- openplatypus 4y agoCompared to Linux? Yes, there is extra VM layer. But you get access to software not found on Linux. Compared to macOS? Not really, the Docker on Mac runs in a VM so it the same level of abstraction. Please correct me if that's not accurate. So if you need/want Docker for your development, I am not sure I see added bloat.
