Did giant impacts start plate tectonics?
- damethos 4y agoNot a useful comment but I will be honest...I read "Did GIANTS impact..." and thought "Definitely an interesting read".
- Jupe 4y agoI always considered the moon as having a direct impact on the formation of the original super continent, Pangaea. The moon was much closer billions of years ago, and it just always made sense to me that the gravitational pull of the moon caused the bulge that would become the large land mass of the earth. Just visually, the area of the super continent roughly matches the size of the moons cross-section. And, when I read about the moon being our "guardian", taking on numerous asteroid hits, I always pictured Pangaea to be well protected, due to the proximity of the moon.
