A product so valuable GM is now literally FORCING people to buy it. If I'm thinking correctly Car Play negates the need for anything OnStar does (that you might actually care about).
- xbar 4y agoAs if I needed a reason to continue to avoid GM vehicles. I wish I wanted one.
- pdabbadabba 4y ago> GM is now literally FORCING people to buy it. I don’t mean to be pedantic but…they’re not forcing you to buy this any more than they’re forcing you to buy the rest of the car. You could always just buy a Ford instead.
- listenallyall 4y ago> Car Play negates the need for anything OnStar does I'm no fan of OnStar or forced subs. But can Car Play call 911 or the police if you are unconscious after a crash? Or prevent your car from being driven if you report it as stolen?
- sneak 4y ago> But can Car Play call 911 or the police if you are unconscious after a crash? Crash detection isn't a thing in phones generally, but it's worth noting that all cellular devices, regardless of subscription/service status, can call 911 (even without a sim card). You don't need some subscription payment to do that.
- dr_spicy 4y agoMaybe not generally, but it's starting to be a thing https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7055029?hl=en https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7055029?hl=en

- hbossy 4y agoHow many roads with no passersby still have cell coverage? How many of them allow for speeds great enough to knock you unconscious on impact?
- listenallyall 4y ago> speeds great enough If you aren't wearing a seatbelt (admittedly, a bad idea), very close to 100% of them.
