It's about negotiating with someone so that you both feel like you're getting a good deal. If you develop the amount of value you can off and your negotiating skills you can improve your life. Each "pointless" job is just a stepping stone to developing your value. If you can see these as an investment in your career you might be able to tolerate a few years in jobs you don't love. Then you'll have the credentials to walk into a role you would love.
