When the job title 'subscriptions manager' becomes common, you'll know we've hit 'peak subscription'.
- IceMetalPunk 4y agoWould you like to subscribe to my unsubscription service? For only $10/month, we can unsubcribe you from all subscriptions* and ensure no subscription service makes you subscribe to their subscriptions in your time as a subscriber. * except ours
- humbleferret 4y agoThis is amusing, but I can't help but feel sad that this could one day become a reality.
- IceMetalPunk 4y agoSubscribe to that reality to get exclusive perks, like finding out if it's real or not!
- missedthecue 4y agoIt already exists. It's called TrueBill, it costs $3-$12 per month, and they were acquired for $1.2 billion
- IceMetalPunk 4y ago...I thought I was being satirical. Why did you have to remind me how awful the world is? -_-
- HowardStark 4y agoUpsettingly, this reality is here. Beyond TrueBill, which was brought up in other comments, there are real issues with stopping malicious / anti-pattern subscriptions. Some cases _require you to pay just to stop a recurring charge_. A major villain in this story is gym chains like 24 Hour Fitness, who force you to go in person just to cancel. If you make a very rational choice to work it out with your bank, the bank might still charge you a fee just to stop a recurring payment! Subscriptions are, I think fundamentally, an anti-pattern that should be stopped ASAP.
