I'm panicking. That's what this article is to support, right? Like those "Doom" articles they wrote in the 90's or the "TV" articles of the 80's

- SQueeeeeL 4y agoI mean, weren't people also addicted to tv in the 90s? Like, over consumption of media really doesn't seem like a good thing...
- robswc 4y agoI agree sensationalism isn't good... but I think they honestly hit the mark. People getting fully absorbed in utter nonsense. Be it from TV or social media. I don't watch the news, but looking at CNN as it stands... Top 5 articles are: DeSantis does things in Florida Prosecutor suspended by DeSantis has something to say Biden has deadline for something in October Trump takes questions Republican Extremists defend Trump Top 5 on NPR: Fear turns to shock, discovered Muslim killer is also Muslim Giraffe gives birth to baby Debate about "Don't Tread on Me" plates Iranian plotted to kill John Bolton Top on Fox: Something about Biden's son Something about a disease in China Students charged in murder of Texas teen don't even care to list the rest... You get the picture... its all just utter nonsense. News for the sake of news. News channels don't have anything important so they have to find something and make it important. Sure... one or two of those articles may be relevant or interesting to you but for most people it should just be noise. TV _was_ a huge problem, the problem just migrated to social media. The term couch potato fell out of favor but that's what people used to be called that did nothing but watch TV. I'm kinda ranting and not structuring this well... but I just want to say I'm not trying to be all high and mighty and imply that going on HN or not having TikTok makes me a better person. We all kill time in our own ways... but it has to be admitted that some methods are healthier/more productive than others.
