Photoshop CC v19 installer for Linux
- themodelplumber 4y agoDamn. How far we've come! That's impressive. I wonder how much of the rest of the CC app suite, or at least the more common part of it, is a work in progress.
- alpha_squared 4y agoThe repo owner also owns Illustrator CC v17 repo for Linux[0]. Haven't played with either of these repos, but they seem promising. [0] https://github.com/Gictorbit/illustratorCClinux https://github.com/Gictorbit/illustratorCClinux
- don-code 4y agoWhile I certainly appreciate what both the author of this project and the WINE community have put together, how far _have_ we come? My last copy of Photoshop (albeit Photoshop 7, pre-Creative Suite) in the late 2000s worked just fine under WINE, installer and all. I honestly don't know what drift has happened since then - maybe Adobe has made this purposefully difficult in some way?
- soared 4y agoPhotoshop of day is pretty much incomparable to 15 year old versions. The tools in in photoshop (let alone the rest of cc) are extremely advanced, complicated and likely the reason you’re looking for.
- hot_gril 4y agoI've found it more difficult to run newer software in Wine in general, especially games. Of course there's Proton for games, but I mean straight Wine. Maybe cause everything that used to be standalone now has a launcher or whatever, even Photoshop. And software is changing faster now.
- ranger_danger 4y agoI've had good success with the lutris launcher. For certain problematic apps/games (GTA5 for example), it has the option to use its own heavily patched wine that fixes tons of programs and makes them usable and often more performant, including options to use DXVK (Vulkan translation layer for later DirectX versions) or dgVoodoo2 (software emulation of old DirectX/Glide versions). Every app also gets its own wine prefix and you can still choose to use the stock wine for some apps if desired. Best thing is that it doesn't rely on proton or steam/valve in any way and respects your privacy.
- bitwize 4y agoJust wait until Adobe CC does remote attestation via Pluton.
- chris_wot 4y agoI'm interested how to install Adobe CC itself and allow it to install the programs itself.
- tambourine_man 4y ago> It's free and you will not need any license key That's piracy. Also, software that's 5 years old.
- NovemberWhiskey 4y agoYeah. Great technical feat; shame about the software theft.
- tambourine_man 4y agoIs it a great technical feat to run 5 year old software? The state of creative tools on Linux is sad.
- kradeelav 4y agoWith the subscription shenanigans and dark patterns and abuse of their market dominance that adobe's pulled - good! Little taste of their own medicine's not a bad thing. :)
- devwastaken 4y agoAdobe holds onto intellectual property, which are privileges specially given by government. It's government protected property. Therefore it's not piracy, it's using public resources we all pay for with taxes. :) Yes it's piracy. And the author can expect to be dmca'd, along with their account information being subpoenaed. Same thing I said to the Zelda decompiled team: if you're going to do it, you better have absolutely nothing associated with your real identity. VPNs for everything. Unfortunately, devs don't understand how medieval court processes are. If the corps want to, they can bury you. You exist because they let you.
- ranger_danger 4y agoI thought both Adobe and Microsoft have publicly stated that they prefer you steal their products rather than using a competitor's.
- circularfoyers 4y agoUnless I missed something, it appears[1] this script installs a tar archive of Photoshop from the domain https://victor.poshtiban.io https://victor.poshtiban.io without any information about where or how this tar archive was generated. I'm not sure how I'm suppose to trust this. - toastal 4y agoPretty much. Along with GIMP, Inkscape, Hugin, darktable, RAWTherapee, as far as raster graphics go, I’m happy with the free and libre landscape that doesn't involve jumping through those hoops and supporting Adobe. What I'd like to see however is school teaching FOSS options too instead of folks getting train purely on proprietary, expensive subscription software.
- sofixa 4y agoThe École des Arts de la Sorbonne (formerly known as the Arts faculty of the Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University) run a FOSS stack for the graphics design courses. Debian for the OS, Scribus and Inkscape as software taught. Of course some students complain about it, especially seeing that some of them are already accustomed to Adobe's suite. One refrain i heard was "of course this is free software, nobody would pay for it".
- toastal 4y agoThat's super cool to know about! My only education experience is in the US though.
- HKH2 4y agoThe brushes seem better in Krita, and the pop-up palette is quite convenient when using a tablet. With layer styles supported now, I don't miss anything from Photoshop.
- coderhs 4y agoYou can find v21.0.2 here: https://github.com/CSMarckitus/Photoshop https://github.com/CSMarckitus/Photoshop
- kaba0 4y agoI was thinking, why don’t package these hard to install wine programs with nixpkgs? It would be an actually correct and reliably solution.
