This is supported by a great book by Jeff Hawkins (Palm Computing/Handspring founder), [On Intelligence](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Intelligence https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Intelligence) (2004). It's been a decade+ since I read through it, so my memory is a little fuzzy, but my take away was: humans are hardwired for pattern recognition. Pattern identification improves our mental model of the universe. We use that model to predict things about the future. Making accurate predictions about the future is intelligence.
