For directions, I now usually use Apple Maps, although somehow I find myself "double checking" with Google Maps, especially for public transportation. In my experience both Apple Maps and Google Maps can give unreasonable directions for public transport, with the best in class being Citymapper. It's also the only service that provides guidance on which subway car to board (closest exit for transfers, for example).
