  Truly. It is infuriating dealing with the phone number rigamarole. Why does X company require me to use a certain phone number/IPv4 address/2FA? It doesn't improve security, it does not protect against sybil attacks. The reason is vendor lock-in and data collection. It's not worth dealing with this crap to access another time-wasting/brainwashing app. At the same time, there is no shortage of users here willing to give lip service to these backwards practices.
