To me this sounds similar to the old saying "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life" I've found this to simply mean that you enjoy the work you put in. Gamers can spend hours getting good at a game. Few would call it practice, they'd call it play. However, whatever you call it you need it to get good. Whatever that thing is that you put into a relationship, it's needed.
